The Power of Thought

Take a look around you. Perhaps you come across a chair. This is a real chair that exists in both time and space. Yet, before it became a reality, it was only a thought. In reality, everything in the room started off as a notion in someone’s head. Your thoughts—your thoughts about what is feasible and what is not—have shaped who you are today and the reality you have created. Your spirituality, your purpose—who you consider yourself to be—and your beliefs and values all impact your ideas.

Every day, a person is believed to have about 60,000 thoughts. That’s more than 40 thoughts every minute! However, ninety percent of the 60,000 thoughts you have today are the same as the 60,000 you had yesterday and the day before, leaving little room for fresh ideas. It’s no surprise that life can be tedious at times. You will continue to produce and repeat the same old reality every day unless you begin to think differently. Isn’t it past time for you to change your mind, live your dreams, and let reality catch up with you?

The majority of our thoughts and activities are automatic, and we go through the same motions every day with little variation in our attitudes or behaviors. What would happen if you questioned these customs or habits? If you were to venture outside of your comfort zone and try new ideas or methods of doing things, how would you feel? Wouldn’t your life be different as a result?

Our thoughts are frequently about not measuring up, being incompetent or inadequate, avoiding failing, or punishing ourselves for saying or doing the wrong thing. Your thoughts predate the reality you create for yourself, just as thought preceded the construction of the chair.

Your current way of thinking will influence the future, which is what awaits you. You have no control over your ideas, except for them. What thoughts are you going to pick for yourself that will lead to a different future?

Energy is a type of thought. Do you feel that this energy is propelling you ahead or holding you back? You have a say in the thoughts you have. How many times have you opted to ignore your positive ideas in favor of focusing on your negative ones? How would your life alter right now if you were to be a cause and focus on your positive thoughts while dismissing your negative thoughts?

You become what you think about.

– Earl Nightingale

Pay attention to what is going on around you if you want to accomplish your dreams. Keep an open mind. Consider how your views about yourself, others, and what others might think of you affect your ability to achieve. Begin to perceive, think about, and feel things, people, places, and events in new ways. Recognize what happens when you start to think differently about yourself and your capabilities.
